During 2012, The Artemis Project launched a Water Fellowship program.  Zac Anglin, Julie KelleherKate Kilduff and Amy Wang brought deep background in engineering, science and business.

The fellows worked with an international network of recommenders to identify promising water tech start-ups across the globe.  They drove the Artemis Top 50 outreach to companies. They worked with the water industry experts on the Artemis Top 50 jury to evaluate each company and select the most promising 50 companies.

This inaugural class of fellows reflects the promise of a new leadership in the water industry.

 

Zac Anglin

Zac Anglin is currently working towards his Masters of Oceanography and MBA at the University of Rhode Island.  He has a BS in Environmental Science from McGill University and work experience as the environmental officer at Minto Explorations, an active copper mine in Canada’s Yukon Territory.  One of Mr. Anglin’s roles at Minto was to actively manage the on-site water treatment plant and this is where his interest in water technology began.

 

Julie Kelleher

Julie Kelleher is a senior at the University of California, Los Angeles in the Institute of the Environment and Sustainbility.  Over her college career, she has focused on sustainable consulting, water systems, and business practices.  She is directing a sustainability class at UCLA in the fall.

Ms. Kelleher has worked as an intern for Atherton 2020, a consulting  organization offering residential homes smart-meter audits and  information about cutting-edge energy efficient technologies.  She has  led a research team to institute sustainable infrastructural changes throughout the UCLA Recreation facilities and buildings.  She also  worked three years as a Civil Engineer Intern at the Santa Clara  County, Roads and Airports Department.

Ms. Kelleher will graduate from UCLA in June 2013 with a B.S. in  Environmental Science and a minor in Environmental Systems and Society.

“I am interested in the Artemis Top 50 because of the opportunities it gives start-ups and the vast amount of knowledge I can learn about water technologies. Looking into a career in sustainable consulting, I am also interested in seeing how companies take an environmental need or resource efficiency need and turn it into a viable business practice,” notes Ms. Kelleher when asked why she joined Artemis.

Kate Kilduff

Kate Kilduff is the Marketing and Public Relations fellow for the Artemis Top 50 competition.  Currently pursuing a Master’s in Geography and Environmental Planning at San Francisco State University, her research concentrates on water project development in lesser-developed countries.  Since graduation from University of California, San Diego and before coming to Artemis, Ms. Kilduff held a number of non-profit and international positions.  She served as a Sustainable Agriculture and Agribusiness Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua, an Education Coordinator at an orphanage supported by the organization Students Helping Honduras, and has managed a local food and nutrition center for low-income and homeless populations in Mountain View, CA.  During most of her time in Nicaragua she lived without access to clean or running water, but before she returned home she was awarded a USAID Small Project Assistance grant enabling her to complete several micro water projects in the most vulnerable sectors of her rural community.

Amy Wang

Amy Wang is currently an undergraduate student in Civil & Environmental Engineering at UCLA.  Originating from China, her studies focus on environmental engineering technologies and their applications to benefit people.  She has worked in China’s largest waste water treatment plant, Beijing Gaobeidian WWTP, as an administrative operator, and has also experienced its R&D stage for its secondary treatment process.  Ms. Wang has a strong interest in the efficiency for water usage and environmental sustainability.
